I remember being a little girl and having these huge family gatherings for New Years Eve. The whole evening was a big celebration with all our extended family and friends. When the countdown would begin the excitement became enthralling. Hugs and kisses would be flying everywhere and the parents would rush us to the back door to open it up and let the old year out, and then we would race to the front door and let the New Year in.
As a child I couldn’t think past lots family, staying up late and many tasty treats as the reason to celebrate the New Year. I now look back and see a room full of adults celebrating another year that has passed; one less year left on the mortgage, a closing chapter to a difficult year in marriage, a welcoming of a new phase in life, a chance to start fresh and create the year you hoped the last would be. Out with the old, in with the new…I suppose those words just carry more weight now.
This past year has been amazing, I’ve actually spent the last little while looking back in shock at how simply wonderful my previous twelve months have been. Two years ago I ended December on my knees begging to never experience another year like I just had. This year I get to end December on my knees once more, only this time thanking God for all the blessings He poured into my life during 2009.
And so, here I am welcoming the new and full of anticipation to find out what 2010 will hold for me. I can only pray it will be half as wonderful as my last year. Happy New Year everyone! Be Blessed!
